Why Sai is Awesome

Description

NOTE: Sai DOES NOT WORK ON MACINTOSH COMPUTERS. Only on Windows computers.

This is for someone over on FB who is asking what makes Sai better than Photoshoop-da-whoop.

For the most part, Sai is set up exactly like PS, with the minor exception to the names given to certain settings. On the layer window on the left, for example, "Preserve Opacity" in Sai is the same as "Lock Layer" in Photoshop, where you can ONLY apply color onto the area that already HAS color.

The only other major difference in Sai is that there are no layer functions/settings that allow you to use a paintbucket on an empty layer under the lineart, and not have it fill the whole page. To rectify that problem, you just basically use the Wand tool on the lineart layer, click your empty layer, and Fill. Because Sai's fill function has a very slight bleed, you can use the fill on your artwork and not have that weird barrier/halo like in PS where the filled area meets the line and there's a slight empty space in between. I might point out that I LOVE this fact, because in PS when I would fill in my black areas in the comic lineart, there would always be a faint white line that I'd have to go back and paint over manually.

To hotkey anything, just alt+double click on the button and it'll bring up a window for you to easily pick what you want to set that thing to.

Also, there's two different kinds of layers you can create. A regular layer, and a Lineart layer, where you can use the Line tool to draw straight lines, or to click+drag on them to create curves (no currently easy way to make those lines perfectly vertical/horizontal like when holding shift when you draw it in Photoshop, but you can gawk at it and adjust it till there's no zig-zags in it...or just do it real quick in Photoshop and then continue on.) The Pressure tool lets you adjust the thickness of those lines by pulling left/right on any of the selection points along that line. You can also draw with the pen tool on these layers and alter those lines, but it's not quite as effective as just drawing the line right in the first place in a regular layer.

Should i move on from gimp to SAI? I mean Gimp has wonderful Layers and path feature, and i'm a mouse user? Would you recommend me SAI?
